Teachers serving the AVID students look boldly to the future for the promise of possibility that exists in each of today's youth.  The promise of the future is the inspiration for the present.

AVID teachers enhace their skills with a variety of advanced training opportunities.  Each year, teachers attend a intensive week of advanced instruction.  This learning opportunity gives AVID instructors the time to come together and learn innovatve teaching skills as well as the opportunity to gather and share teaching tools with fellow AVID teachers from across the country.

As an AVID instructor, teachers come to the classroom with these standards:

  • All students deserve the opportunity to experience academic rigor
  • Instruction impacts student achievement, so what happens in the classroom is fundamental to student academic success
  • Ongoing professional development improves and supports effective instruction
  • Teachers function as a collaborative learning community
  • Data drives school improvement decisions
  • All members of the school are accountable for its successes and failures
  • Support structures help students and teachers excel
  • The school culture sets college attendance as a goal for all students

In essence, the AVID teacher's philosophy is that the goal is to "increase learning for all students, while closing the achievement gap between disadvantaged and non-disadvantaged students" while striving to "increase on-time high school graduation rates for all students."
