Boundary Adjustment Committee

March 2019 Attendance Area Option Meetings & Survey

With the reconstruction and opening of Madison School in September 2019 and the closing of Lincoln School as an elementary school at the same time, the Mount Vernon School District has been developing new attendance area boundaries which will go into effective next school year. The boundaries determine which school students will attend based upon home address.  Options for new boundaries have continued to be developed and will be shared at the school meetings in March.

You are invited to attend:

  • Mon, March 25 - Jefferson Elementary School, 6:30 pm
  • Tues, March 26 - Little Mountain Elementary School, 6:30 pm

March 2019 SURVEY - survey closes Wednesday, March 27

Thirty (30) parent and community members attended the Parent/Community meeting on Monday, October 29 at LaVenture Middle School.  District officials shared information on the development of the attendance area option maps with question/answers.  Valuable feedback    was provided by attendees and will help the committee determine next steps.

Approximately 100 parents and community members participated in the Attendance Area meetings on June 5, June 7 and June 11.

The Boundary Adjustment Committee shared two (2) elementary attendance area options for review.

Boundary Adjustment Committee Goals

Identify 2 or 3 viable options to recommend to the Mount Vernon School Board for implementation in the 2019-2020 school year.

Based upon committee work supported by parent survey responses this fall, school attendance area options will incorporate the following guiding principles:

  • Safety - attendance areas will consider the safety of students' walking, biking and bus stop locations.
  •  Equity - attendance areas will create student populations in each school that are similar in size and student makeup.
  • Efficiency - attendance areas will make the best use of district resources and provide efficient school and transportation operations.

 Next steps:

  • Spring 2018 - the administration, transportation staff and district registrar will begin exploring attendance area options for committee review; school-and community-based meetings will be held to obtain community reaction to options.
